Originally introduced in 1959, it was designed as a full-range solution intended to serve as a center channel between two widely spaced Klipschorn loudspeakers, offering larger dimensions and a more extended frequency response than the Heresy model. After production ceased in 1990, strong demand from enthusiasts and numerous customer requests led to the return of this legendary design in an updated and further refined version.

The Cornwall III retains the design philosophy that made the original model famous, employing a three-way configuration that combines outstanding efficiency, wide dynamic range, and powerful sound reproduction. The midrange and high frequencies are handled by horn-loaded compression drivers, a hallmark of Klipsch engineering that delivers exceptional sensitivity, impressive dynamics, and highly detailed, engaging sound even when paired with relatively low-powered amplifiers.

Low frequencies are reproduced by a large 15-inch (38.1 cm) direct-radiating woofer designed to deliver deep, authoritative, and well-extended bass. Thanks to this configuration, the Cornwall III achieves low-frequency performance comparable to the renowned Klipschorn while maintaining sensitivity and output levels approaching those of the company's fully horn-loaded loudspeakers.

The Cornwall III also incorporates an integrated riser base, previously available only as an optional accessory, which enhances both the appearance of the speaker and its acoustic positioning within the listening environment.
